Underwriter

Essential Functions:
  • Review submissions and qualify risks in an effort to quote new and renewal business
  • Classifies prices and obtains coverage terms for individual policies according to carrier and company guidelines
  • Submit risks to market and define overall requirements per our customers needs o Exhibits thorough working knowledge of sound underwriting principles, policies, procedures, and controls
  • Act as a liaison between markets and customers to negotiate favorable insurance quotes o Review quotes for accuracy before sending to the agent
  • Make outbound phone calls to follow up on quotes
  • Communicate coverage and selling points effectively in an effort to educate the agent on advantages in the quote
  • Solicit new business and maintain relationships with existing customers as applicable
  • Respond to customer emails and phone calls in compliance within service standards
  • Track performance metrics in order to achieve individual and team level goals
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
  • Knowledge of commercial lines risk, classification, pricing desirable o Working knowledge of the wholesale agency distribution system preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze data in order to make an informed, risk decision
  • Strong problem solving, reasoning, and decision making skills. o Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree with some business experience
Experience:

Underwriting Assistant

Department: Operations
Reports to: Assistant Manager of Administration
Position Summary: To provide support for the Underwriting Team by demonstrating excellent service in issuing new and renewal policies and handling of customer correspondence and endorsement requests. All responsibilities are to be handled within departmental guidelines and established service standards by the insurance companies.

Essential Functions:
  • Process & issue policies, policy change requests (endorsements) including audits, Inspections, Premium financing, On-line business and notices within service promise standards
  • Promote good customer relations
  • Handle customer inquiries and service issues professionally and within company established standards
  • Telephone and email inquires to be handled “same day.”
  • Verify critical information (dates, premium, policy number, applicable forms, subject to items, etc.)
  • Obtain underwriter approval when necessary per departmental guidelines
  • Maintain communication with Underwriter staff on change requests outside of individual authority and secure Underwriter direction as needed regarding policy forms and pricing
Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Account Executive for  Chicago, IL and St. Louis, MO

Description:

The Agency Representative communicates with prospective and current customers the value proposition of Gateway while developing and growing relationships with these customers through on-site meetings and telling the Gateway Story.

Essential Functions:
  • Prospecting for new customers (Retail P&C Agencies) via telephone, internet or while traveling.
  • Establishing and growing the customer base to generate new business premium.
  • Following up and maintaining strong relationships with existing customer base.
  • Making a minimum of 16 customer visits per week in large geographic area.
  • Managing sales territory to maximize premium growth and customer satisfaction.
  • Effectively communicating with Gateway’s in-house underwriting team.
  • Maximizing time management techniques in setting and implementing customer appointments.
  • Attending and participating in sales and management meetings.
  • Utilizing Gateway Sales Systems (ACT), Operating Systems (AIM) and Microsoft Office software to maximize potential business growth through documentation and written/verbal communication as needed.
  • Enhancing personal development through Continuing Education courses and attaining Insurance Designations (RPLU, ASLI, AINS, CPCU)
